Indian filmmaking duo Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, better known as Raj & DK, have signed a multi-year deal to direct and produce films and series for Netflix.
Known for their distinctive and quirky style, Raj & DK have achieved commercial success and critical acclaim in various forms in India, working in independent films, big-budget feature films and, more recently, serials.
In 2021, they launched their own production brand D2R Indie to create independent film projects from emerging directors. The company’s first release, produced by Raj & DK, was a well-received Telugu comedy drama. movie gangwhich was first directed by Praveen Candregula and released on Netflix last year.
Raj & DK also already have their next series as directors and showrunners on Netflix: the upcoming crime-comedy thriller, Guns and Roses. Netflix describes the project as “a story of love and innocence in a world of crime, a nostalgic tale of firsts of all kinds, from first love to first murder”.
“Raj & DK is one of the most original creative voices in the country,” said Monica Shergill, head of content for Netflix India. “Along with their unique and inventive storytelling style, they are also a powerful study. We are excited to continue our relationship with them for a multi-year creative partnership that will bring the best entertainment to Netflix members around the world.”
Raj & DK added in a statement, “We look forward to creating great and unique stories and challenging ourselves to take storytelling into a new and exciting space.”
