Crime 101a heist film brought to life by a top-notch cast
New feature film by Bart Layton (American animals), Crime 101 is an adaptation of Don Winslow’s short novel, published in 2020 in the collection The price of revenge. Its story revolves around Davis, a thief who steals high-value items with great competence. But an expert investigator, Lou Lubesnick, is on his trail and a cat and mouse game begins between them.
For Crime 101Bart Layton surrounded himself with a large cast. Chris Hemsworth AND Marco Ruffaloaka Thor and Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they play Davis and Lou Lubesnick. Halle Berry (Die another day) lends his features to Sharon Colvin, an insurance broker who takes care of very wealthy clients. Barry Keoghan (Salt burner) plays Ormon, another thief with a difficult past who could thwart Davis’ plans. AND Monica Barbaro (A complete stranger) plays a woman Davis is attracted to.
Davis plans his last big move, but will he get caught?
A few hours after the first photos of Crime 101the trailer for the film has been revealed. While Lubesnick pursues Davis, the latter makes a proposal to Sharon Colvin after meeting him. He suggests joining forces to make things insured by the company he works for disappear.
Chris Hemsworth’s character then gets ready his last big move. Its purpose is that steal diamonds worth millions of dollars. If he succeeds, he will have enough money to stop his illegal activities. But Lubesnick is getting dangerously close. As the noose tightens around him, Will Davis be able to pull off his latest robbery and escape before the inspector can arrest him?
A gentleman thief
In an interview with SquireChris Hemsworth gave more details about his character. He explained that it was “a good boy” who does it “bad things”. Davis is like that a gentleman thief. He only steals what insurance companies can replace and meticulously plans his attacks so that no one gets hurt. According to his interpreter, he is a character full of vulnerability for which the audience can feel empathy.
Also interviewed by Squire Bart Layton explained that he wrote “an extended version” from the story by Don Winslow for his film. And he got it inspired by several classic heist films : The Thomas Crown case, The solitaire AND Heat.
Crime 101 will come out February 13, 2026 in North American theaters. And probably two days before in France.
