After years and years and years of waiting, Netflix has finally released the adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s seminal work. The man of the sand the world. The King of Dreams show took us on a journey through consciousness and unconsciousness and into realms around the world. The man of the sand universe. While many have welcomed some major cast changes, such as hiring Kirby Howell-Baptiste to play Death, some trolls don’t seem to like these new versions of the characters. Others thanked Gaiman for in the face of “racist trolls and haters”.
The user who was angry about the casting was fed up with the Howell-Baptiste casting for death. In the comics, Death is a white woman, and she is a black woman, and she’s on the show. However, Howell-Baptiste had one of the most highly regarded performances on the show. Gaiman spoke at length about her love for death, saying that her performance in episode 6 (IYKYK) had the the highest reward and made him cry .
The man of the sand was praised for his active work in diversifying the cast and modifying parts of the comic to be more inclusive and representative. Along with Howell-Baptiste’s performance, some of the other characters receiving praise are characters who don’t match the original gender or race of their comic book predecessor. Time Season 2 has not been confirmed, Gaiman replied, saying that since it’s such an expensive show, Netflix has to wait and see how it performs in the long run and if it will rank among the best shows to binge on Netflix. We can expect the cast of Dream’s younger brother Delirium to live up to the high and inclusive level set by season one.
