After a five-month hiatus, Chris Wallace is ready to ask more questions.
The CNN host, whose broadcast program was cut when the channel ended its short-lived CNN+ service, will return to a much larger streaming platform later this month: HBO Max.
CNN says the new season of Wallace’s talk show, Who is talking to Chris Wallace?The first 3 episodes will premiere on HBO Max on September 23. Highlights from these 3 episodes will be turned into a one-hour TV show aired on CNN on Sunday, September 25th.
This format will continue for the first 10-week season, with three full interviews airing Fridays on HBO Max and Wallace hosting The Best of Show on Sunday nights at 7pm. , and baseball star turned entrepreneur and broadcaster Alex Rodriguez, among others. Among those interviewed on his CNN+ show were former Disney CEO Bob Iger and White House press secretary Jen Psak.
The new show will likely have a much wider audience than Wallace’s CNN+ show, the streaming news service has thousands of subscribers and is not a linear option. HBO Max and HBO had about 77 million subscribers as of May 1, and CNN linear will make the show available in an additional 80 million homes.
CNN describes it as “the first partnership between two famous brands” that “transcends traditional broadcast and cable boundaries”.
“Chris Wallace is a legend in our profession. His unparalleled interviewing experience has impacted industries and changed history,” said Chris Licht, president and CEO of CNN, in a statement. “Now, with the launch of his show on HBO Max and CNN, his iconic interview style will reach an wider audience than ever before.
Wallace, former anchor fox news sunday, left the network late last year to join CNN+, a top priority for then-President Jeff Zucker. However, Licht’s new leadership and new ownership by Warner Bros. Discovery chose to forgo subscription streaming efforts. In May, Licht announced that Wallace would return to CNN on Sundays, positioning the talk show as the centerpiece of what would become Sunday’s new schedule.
