In 2019, Disney released a remake of The Lion King, the 1994 animated film of the same name, and now Disney is returning to the Lion King characters with a prequel centered around Scar and Mufasa. The film, now titled, “Mufasa: The Lion King,” is directed by Barry Jenkins (Moonlight). The film was announced in 2020 and is now expected in 2024.
