This yoga pose reduces uncomfortable menstrual symptoms – you can do it right in bed

Menstruation is a period traditionally associated with abstinence from activity. However, some types of physical activity, on the contrary, stabilize the state during this difficult period of the month and help distract from pain and other unpleasant symptoms.

Modern women have different attitudes about critical days. Some complain that in our country there are no laws, like in Europe: where recently you can take sick leave during the period of the most acute moments of menstruation. Others, on the contrary, do not consider it necessary to limit the usual rhythm of life: especially given the appearance of comfortable menstrual underwear and tampons for intimacy, which allow you to hide the presence of secretions.

However, menstruation is not limited to these times. Many women experience severe pain, bloating, and general gastrointestinal upset. Okay, with these symptoms, talking about going on with your usual life doesn’t seem so rosy and doable anymore!

Of course, you can improve your well-being by taking medication and dieting. But no less effective can be the implementation of elementary yoga asanas: slow, measured and not involving active impact on the muscles of the body.

Some movements can be performed without getting out of bed. So, during a period of deteriorating well-being, you can try doing “pawan muktasana” – an asana better known as “wind release pose”.

  • Lie on your back, feet shoulder width apart
  • Bend your right leg at the knee and pull it towards your chest
  • Hold the bent leg with your hands – gently, without tension
  • Breathe slowly, in a measured way, observing the reaction of the body
  • Repeat the movement on the left leg. And then, if desired, pull both knees to your chest at the same time – and lie down in this position

The well-known asana has a beneficial effect on the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract and relieves bloating – a common cause of increased pain during menstruation. But be careful: when pain and discomfort appear, it is better to gently stop the practice and lie down for a while in a neutral position.
