On Twitter, the comedian made a snarky Twitter mention. 🇧🇷[James Corden] about the ad for guitar lessons in the town square is brilliant.” He later deleted the tweet because he “started to feel sorry for” the host.

After the controversy, corden admitted how he “inadvertently” copied the joke on Twitter: “I told a brilliant joke from Ricky Gervais on the show last night, obviously not knowing it came from him. It’s brilliant because it’s a joke Ricky Gervais🇧🇷 You can watch all the great specials from ricky at Netflix🇧🇷

So on the podcast headlinesgives BBC🇧🇷 Gervais revealed how corden approached him privately: “I said, ‘Don’t worry about it. If your writers had been in the back of the room when I was warming up and you had published it before I did it in Netflix…’, but whatever you think of James Cordenthere’s no way he knowingly stole my joke and thought he was going to get away with it.”

Then the comedian was asked if he regretted having that reaction. “No, because I’m authorized. I didn’t know how it had happened. And I thought it was funny. I thought it was absurd that it was such an obvious theft,” he replied.

But again, I don’t know how he did it, because the writer must have guided him and said, ‘Do this and that.’ Or he saw it five years ago and completely forgot about it and thought he had done something original. That too can happen.

There are some plagiarists, but a lot of it is genuinely accidental… so that was clearly my routine, but I don’t think he made it up. I think a screenwriter presented it to him and didn’t say it was mine, or the screenwriter forgot. I don’t know, I want to be fair.
