Criticisms of the 1972 album, featuring artists such as Milton Nascimento and Lô Borges, went viral on Twitter — and sparked revolt among Brazilians
Created in the 1960s by musicians like Milton Nascimento, Lô Borges, Wagner Tiso and Toninho Hortaamong others, the Clube da Esquina is one of the most respected musical projects inside and outside Brazil. The eponymous album released in 1972 is often cited as one of the greatest of all time, particularly for fusing rock, bossa nova, jazz, folk music and other styles naturally.
Still, there are those who make fun of the group. A Twitter profile called Adventures in RatingMusicwhich compiles posts from gringo users of Rate Your Music(site where Internet users can evaluate musical works), surprised by disclosing some negative comments about the Club.

One Internet user, for example, defined Clube da Esquina as “half a copy of Kanye West”. Another cited “influences from Death Grips” on the record, while a third defined the group as “the Playboy Carti of MPB”. None of the comments make sense, as the artists mentioned appeared much later than milton and their friends, which leads us to the conclusion that these people are just playing around with the topic.

Even so, several Brazilians showed discomfort with the opinions. One fan, for example, declared via Twitter: “When you are so self-centered that it is impossible to have a sense of the ridiculous. Who is mr. west in the bread queue where the king Milton Nascimento is the supreme baker?” Another said: “These gringa people are used to pop, they copy and paste… They’ll never understand a record like that. Until Bjork already sang milton. Kanye You will still have to eat a lot of flour”.
Explanation after repercussion
The repercussion was such that the administrator of the Adventures in RatingMusic revealed to believe that it is just a joke by internet users of the Rate Your Music.
“Apparently I pissed off the whole of Brazil! The internet is wild. It is worth mentioning that the Clube da Esquina is extremely well evaluated and regarded in the Rate Your Music. It is the highest ranked MPB album of all time, No. 4 ranking album of 1972, No. 119 album of all time. These are just random people posting sh*t and do not reflect the overall site in any way.”
It should be noted that Clube da Esquina is extremely well rated and highly regarded on RYM. Highest rated MPB album of all-time, #4 album in 1972, #119 album of all-time. These are just random people shitposting and don’t reflect the general site at all.
