James Corden talks about his decision to leave CBS late show After the next season.

In Thursday’s late-night monologue, the driver spoke about the news that he had signed a one-year contract and would then leave. Corden noted that while the show, which he hosted for seven and a half years, “changed” his life, it was never his “final destination”.

“This will be my last year hosting the show,” Corden said in his monologue. “When I started this journey, it was always like this. It would be a journey, an adventure. I never saw this as my final destination, you know? And I never want this show to somehow exceed its welcome. I always want to love doing this. And I really think after a year will be a good time to see what might be there.”

During his tenure, Corden presented exclusive segments late showLike the ever-popular “Carpool Karaoke,” “Drop the Mic” and “Crosswalk the Musical,” where guests from the pop world regularly visit.

Corden went on to say in his monologue that he was “determined” to focus on next year and make some noise. “We still have a year ahead of us and we’re all determined that this year will be the best we’ve ever had to film this show. We’re going big. There will be rides, crosswalks, sketches and other surprises.”

While plenty of teasing was to be expected, the presenter said last night that he admitted going was the “hardest decision” he’s ever made. “I never took this job for myself,” he said. “Once. ᲐOnce. And… the fact that you watch us at home. Or watch us online. Wherever you are, all over the world. The fact that we try to have fun and spend time with you is an absolute privilege for me and for every single person who makes this show.”

At the end of the segment, Corden said, “Look, the next 12 months and it’s going to be great, you promise.”
