8 Films to Watch in August 2026

August brings a packed slate of new releases, including a Ridley Scott blockbuster, a Netflix thriller, and a documentary about one of Ukraine’s most beloved musicians.

Opening the first weekend

Paw Patrol: Dino Movie (Aug. 6) sends the pups on an emergency landing on a tropical island where they discover dinosaurs, guided by a dog named Rex who has long lived among the prehistoric creatures.

The Last House (Aug. 7, Netflix) follows a family of four trapped inside their home as supplies run out and an unknown threat closes in. Louis Leterrier, director of Fast X and Lupin, helms the film, which stars Greta Lee and Wagner Moura.

Just One Night (Aug. 7) is set in a fantastical version of New York where one special night a year exists for single people. Two strangers searching for real connection, not a fleeting romance, happen to meet. Callum Turner and Monica Barbaro star.

Tony (Aug. 7) is a biographical drama about 19-year-old Anthony Bourdain spending a summer in Provincetown and stumbling into the world of professional restaurant kitchens, a period that shapes his career and personal life. The cast includes Dominic Sessa, Leo Woodall, and Antonio Banderas.

Mid-month

Kuzma: Terribly Fun (Aug. 13) is a documentary about Andriy Kuzmenko, musician, TV host, and frontman of the band Skryabin. It draws on previously unpublished archive material to explore lesser-known sides of his life and creative path.

The End of Oak Street (Aug. 13) sees an entire street and its residents transported to an unknown world after a mysterious cosmic event. The Platt family must adapt and figure out how to survive where ordinary rules no longer apply. Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor lead the cast.

Late August

Revolt (Aug. 27) stars Jason Statham as security guard Cole Reed, accused of killing his employer, a powerful billionaire industrialist, who sets out to prove his innocence and uncover an international conspiracy. Annabelle Wallis co-stars.

Canis Major (Aug. 27) comes from director Ridley Scott, whose past credits include Gladiator, The Martian, and Alien. A devastating flu pandemic has nearly wiped out humanity. The story centers on Hig, a former civilian pilot, and Bengly, a hardened ex-Marine, who face outside threats while holding on to hope. Jacob Elordi, Margaret Qualley, and Josh Brolin star.
