Andrew Garfield frequently imagines Amazing Spider-Man 3

Actor Andrew Garfield has revealed in an interview that he frequently thinks about what a third solo Spider-Man movie starring him could look like. Garfield explained that imagining how the hypothetical film would turn out is something he regularly does during his spare moments, admitting that he often ponders what the project would have been like.

Supporters have spent years calling for Garfield to return for a third standalone installment as the superhero. Fans and moviegoers regularly ask the actor as well as film executives at Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios about the status of a potential sequel, though there remains no clarity from the studios on whether the project will ever move forward.

Future of the superhero franchise

If a third film in the series ever receives a green light, it is unlikely to arrive in cinemas within the coming years. While there is a possibility that production studios could be working on the feature secretly behind closed doors, industry observers note that rumors would inevitably surface if a project of that scale were active.

Garfield first took on the role of Peter Parker, the high school student who gains superhero abilities after being bitten by a radioactive spider, in the 2012 reboot film The Amazing Spider-Man, directed by Marc Webb. The comic book adaptation was followed by a sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, in 2014, establishing his run as one of the primary live-action portrayals of the Marvel character.

Sony Pictures Entertainment holds the screen rights to Spider-Man, a superhero created for Marvel Comics by writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko. Although Garfield's solo series concluded after two films, the character remains one of the most famous comic book properties in Hollywood, with Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios continuing to produce blockbuster movies based on the hero.
