Spanish actor Antonio Resines has explained why comedy show Los Serrano ended with a dream plot twist that still haunts him 18 years later.

Antonio Resines Addresses Famous 'Los Serrano' Dream Finale

Spanish actor Antonio Resines has spoken about the lingering frustration caused by the famous dream finale of Telecinco series Los Serrano.

Speaking in an interview with Cinemanía magazine, the veteran performer explained that the controversial plot twist from the 2008 episode continues to haunt him nearly two decades after it aired on Spanish television.

Resines, who portrayed family patriarch Diego Serrano in the hit show, revealed that the production team was forced to wrap up the series quickly because the cast and crew were exhausted and actors were beginning to depart.

He described the decision to turn the entire narrative into a dream as a piece of foolishness devised by screenwriters who could not come up with an alternative ending under severe pressure.

According to Resines, the writers failed to account for how much time had elapsed since the show began filming, creating an absurd onscreen contrast when the characters reverted to the start of the story. He noted that over six and a half years had passed during production, leaving actor Guille with a full beard while trying to pass as a younger version of himself.

Elevator Jokes and Streaming Resurgence

The actor opened up about the personal toll the divisive plot twist took on his everyday interactions following the broadcast of the 147th episode. He recalled that for a long period he routinely avoided taking elevators if other passengers were inside, fearing that someone would mockingly ask him how his dream was going.

Resines admitted that the constant teasing created an intense annoyance that he struggled to endure in public spaces, though he acknowledged with humor that pranksters exist everywhere.

While the initial wave of jokes eventually subsided over the years, Resines explained that the nuisance has recently returned after Los Serrano was added to Amazon's streaming platform. He said that a new generation of younger viewers now approaches him to joke about waking him up, leading him to remark with resignation and humor that his life has been a failure.

A Pillar of Spanish Television

Broadcast on Spanish network Telecinco between 2003 and 2008, Los Serrano stood as one of Spain's most popular television productions. The narrative followed a blended family headed by characters played by Belén Rueda and Antonio Resines, each bringing two children to the marriage, with storylines set around a neighborhood tavern and school across 147 hour-long episodes.

The legacy of the show continues to touch its former cast members in various ways. Co-star Jorge Jurado, who played young son Currito in the show, recently announced that he has become a father to two babies, asking fans to let him transition from being the son of Spain to a father.
