Russian distributor Atmosphere of Cinema has released the debut teaser trailer for Basta. Beginning of the Game, a new biopic about rapper Vasily Vakulenko. The film is scheduled to open in cinemas on December 24.
The teaser video was published on the Russian social networking platform VKontakte. Atmosphere of Cinema, which launched the clip alongside its production partners, holds all rights to the footage.
The biographical drama follows the early life and artistic growth of Vakulenko, who was born in Rostov-on-Don in 1980. The storyline depicts the future musician as he searches for his creative voice, experiences first love, and navigates challenges involving professional rivals and family trials.
Cast and Creative Team
Actor Slava Kopeikin plays the lead role of Vakulenko in the production. Kopeikin previously starred in the popular Russian television drama series The Boy's Word: Blood on the Pavement and Children of Change.
Stas Ivanov served as the director of the project. Ivanov is best known for directing the television drama series The End of Innocence.
Vakulenko, who performs under the stage name Basta, is one of the most prominent rap artists, songwriters, and producers in Russia. His hometown of Rostov-on-Don, a major port city situated along the Don River in southwestern Russia, served as the birthplace of his early musical efforts before he attained national fame.
Booming Russian Musical Biopic Genre
The release of Basta. Beginning of the Game continues a growing trend of feature films and television projects focused on famous Russian musical acts. Recent entries in this biographical genre include productions centered on the rock band Korol i Shut, pop group Ruki Vverh!, pop act Kombinaciya, and the comedy feature Tour with Ivanushki.
Moviegoers will be able to see the full biographical story of Vakulenko when Atmosphere of Cinema brings the film to theatrical screens across the country on December 24.
