Why are perfumes so expensive in Russia – it’s not just about sanctions

Let’s start with the main factors that affect the cost of perfumery. Whenever you watch a swanky advertisement of your favorite perfume with a Hollywood star, remember: his fee (well, or his) is included in the price of the coveted bottle.

The cost of perfume doesn’t just include the price of perfume ingredients and alcohol – and that makes sense. The final amount includes marketing (and this, to be honest, is the main part of the price), and freight, and warehouse services, and packaging, and printing, and labeling, and the bottle itself (a unique shape, by the way, it’s more expensive than a standard bottle), and the spray caps… And the assembly. And in Russia, the price also includes mandatory labeling, which they began to do without fail a few years ago.

By the way, it does not matter whether natural or synthetic components are contained in perfumes. It is sometimes more difficult to synthesize a component than to obtain an essential oil.

In 2022, the price of perfumes has increased again. And unfortunately, this trend will only grow. And all over the world! This is due to external economic factors and the evolution of energy prices: after all, indeed, an increase in oil prices will affect the growth of fuel prices, which means that it will also affect prices logistics. And then, the factories producing odorous substances and the global chemical giants also need energy. That is to say, the more expensive and difficult oil and gas are, the higher the price of everything that perfumes, indirectly: perfumes, shower gels, detergents and even tights. Yes, they are also flavored!
