The Simple Secret to Luxurious Hair: Why You Need Scalp Exfoliation

What do you think about the health and speed of hair growth? That’s right, about the condition of the scalp!

Peeling can improve it – therefore, according to experts, this procedure should not be ignored.

The scalp is still skin

“We all know how much care a face needs to keep it looking fresh. The scalp is not very different, but it is often forgotten. By adding a simple scalp scrub to your beauty routine, you can make a difference. An exfoliator will help remove dead skin cells, and continued use will help deal with dryness, flaking, excess oil, or irritation,” says trichologist Anabelle Kingsley.

Hair health depends on the condition of the scalp

“Healthy skin is the key to beautiful hair. If you want to strengthen strands, stop hair loss, accelerate growth, get rid of dandruff or flaking, you need to start by taking care of your scalp. In addition, it ages six times faster than in other parts of the body and therefore must be treated with special care, ”says the famous hairstylist Helen Reevy.

Regularity is very important

“The frequency of exfoliation varies from person to person, but once a week is a good general rule. If the scalp is too dry, flaky or itchy, it is best to exfoliate once every two weeks until the symptoms disappear,” advises Anabel.

Find the right formula

“The key is choosing the right exfoliator,” says Kingsley. She advises avoiding peels containing sulfates or silicones, which can clog pores or rob the skin of beneficial bacteria.

For oily skin, peels that affect sebum regulation are suitable – for example, those containing salicylic, azelaic or glycolic acids. In case of dryness, milder acids are recommended – lactic, lactobionic or mandelic. Antifungal ingredients such as piroctone olamine, Climbazole, zinc pyrithione, selenium sulfide and propanediol caprylate will help fight dandruff.

If the skin is very sensitive, pay attention to the amount of acid in the peel, if you feel itching, choose products with soothing ingredients – extracts of chamomile, calendula and witch hazel, panthenol or menthol.

Don’t be overzealous

Mechanical peeling is used when washing hair: Helen advises applying it to the skin and massaging the head for several minutes, avoiding strong rubbing – this can lead to irritation or damage to the hair.

In the case of an acid peel, Anabel strongly advises to pay attention to the instructions for use: generally the product is applied to dry and dirty hair, and it is important to know how long it can remain on the skin.

Do not forget the other aspects of hair care

“Maintaining a healthy scalp doesn’t start and end with skincare. Eat a balanced diet, increase your water intake – both are important for the condition of your hair. Eat foods that contain biotin, selenium and collagen,” advises Helen. Anabel recalls the benefits of self-massage: “It stimulates blood circulation which, in turn, has a positive effect on the condition of the scalp. You can massage with your fingers or with a special brush – it’s a very simple procedure.
