It’s not just water! Why tonic should be in everyone’s routine – 7 main reasons

Do you think the tonic is a useless tool invented by marketers? We thought so too, until we found the right one for us. What effect you can notice from its use, how and how often to apply it – read in our material.

Until recently, we thought that the toner was not the most necessary tool in skin care. And how wrong we were… We learned from experts how to use it correctly, introduced it into our routine and after a while we started noticing positive changes in skin quality. Who? Well, for example, it has become softer, hydrated, elastic and radiant from the inside. So today we are going to share with you the answers to all the questions you might have with the word “tonic”.

What is the tonic used for?

If you choose the right toner for your skin type (without alcohol in the composition!), you will be able to see many benefits from using it. “The product has a slightly acidic pH, which helps balance the moisture balance of the skin, which is so easy to ‘mess up’ with harsh cleansers and many other things, explains Dandy Engelman, dermatologist. disturbed balance is immediately felt, as redness, pimples and dryness appear on the face.”

A good toner keeps your water balance around 5.5 – this is great condition for the skin, it will start to glow. In addition, other beneficial ingredients are added to the formula, such as antioxidants, humectants (moisturizers) and acids, which solve the problems of dullness, dryness and pigmentation.

But the benefits don’t stop there: “If you use a toner immediately after washing your face, it will help reduce the damage caused by running water. Minerals and harsh chemicals that are somehow found in tap water can build up on the skin, leading to further irritation, says Hollywood cosmetologist-dermatologist Rene Roulo. -Apply toner after cleansing and before your entire routine on damp skin. This is important because this way the active ingredients in serums and creams penetrate deeper, which means the effect will be more pronounced.

How to properly apply the tonic

First of all, the product should always be applied to clean skin, so wash your face first, pat your face a little with a towel so that the skin is slightly damp. Then proceed to the application, the methods depend on the formula.

  • If the consistency of the product is denserthen pour a little product on your fingers and spread the tonic on your face.
  • If the product has a watery consistency, liquidthen take cotton pads (for example, reusable) and apply tonic with them.

Secondly, just in case, we want to remind you that the tonic is not washed off with water, it is important to us that the composition remains on the skin as long as possible.

How often to use it?

You can use the tonic twice a day, but there are exceptions – for example, products containing acids. Still, these are liquid exfoliants that are not to be joked about. Such products will help you get rid of dead skin cells and rashes, make your skin shine and even out the texture – in general, magic jars. But do not use them more than three times a week at night and do not combine them with acid serums and retinol.

Result

Previously, it seemed to us that the tonic was a “luxury” water for the face, which is useless (we told our friends this more than once!). But now we are definitely changing our view to the exact opposite. And that’s why:

  • tonic restores water balance;
  • hydrate;
  • can exfoliate;
  • soothes;
  • unifies skin texture;
  • helps get rid of pimples;
  • gives shine.

We now have two toners in our routine: one with mandelic acid to exfoliate, and the second is moisturizing for every day. And our skin has never looked better. We advise you to review your routine 😉
