How to turn ordinary lipstick into long-lasting: 5 simple tricks

Whether it’s a glossy or matte lipstick, a classic red or a bold purple, we all want it to last. Hundreds of brands promise that their product will last and won’t stain, but let’s face it, few of them actually do.

If you want the color to stay with you all day, during which you have to eat, drink and, if you’re lucky, kiss, then here are five tips that will help you.

You probably know that foundation feels smoother and looks better after exfoliation. The same rule applies to lips: if you remove dead skin cells with a gentle sugar scrub, your lips will become more hydrated and smooth, and the lipstick will last longer.

Now you won’t surprise anyone with makeup base, and lips should be no exception. Buy a lip primer – not only will it make the lipstick stay put and keep it from spreading, it will also smooth out bumps, moisturize the skin and keep it from drying out. A thin layer of concealer or foundation can replace the primer.

Use loose, lightly pigmented or translucent powder. Apply it gently with a brush on the lips by patting and pressing, avoiding smudging movements from side to side.

When you do a manicure, you apply several thin coats of polish, not one thick one. The same goes for lipstick – a dense layer will take longer to dry, which can cause uneven texture and color. Therefore, apply a layer of lipstick, spread it evenly with a brush or finger, wait for it to harden, then add the next one.
