The lip is not fooled: what you need to know about hygienic lipsticks and how to choose them

The skin of the lips is very delicate and sensitive, so it is often the first to react to the effects of aggressive external factors. That’s why you need to give him special protection. Fortunately, the modern beauty industry offers a huge number of glosses, lip balms and lip balms for every occasion. We figure out how to choose a tool that meets all important requirements.

You have probably noticed that at the slightest changes in the weather (drop in temperature, strong wind, prolonged exposure to the open air, dry indoor air), the lips instantly become dry, begin to peel or crack, “seizing” pain and inflammation appear on them. . The situation is aggravated by malnutrition, lack of vitamins, dehydration and bad habits – constant companions of life in the metropolis. Irregular care or their complete absence also does its job.

Part of hygienic balms and lipsticks inevitably gets on the mucous membranes and is “eaten”. Therefore, the choice of lip products should be taken responsibly and not buy unverified products from unknown brands.

It should be borne in mind that decorative cosmetics (especially matte lipsticks) and toothpastes also dry out the lips and can increase existing irritation and discomfort. Do not forget about the mechanical damage that can be caused by overly aggressive exfoliating agents (for example, scrubs with large abrasive particles seriously injure vulnerable skin). First you need to identify the cause of the deterioration of the lips and, if possible, eliminate it. However, this process is not always fast, but you want to fix the problem as soon as possible. And that’s where lipsticks and hygienic balms come to the rescue.

These products are designed to moisturize and accelerate the regeneration of the delicate skin of the lips. Note that there are no sebaceous and sweat glands, and blood vessels are located very close to the surface due to the thinner layer of the epidermis, so you simply cannot do without a extra regular hydration. If you regularly use care products, you can avoid serious problems and further treatment of the lips.

Protective balms with a dense texture are ideal for the winter period, as they protect against cold and wind, and also smooth out temperature differences. These products provide intensive nutrition and stimulate regeneration, so they are also useful as an additional night care product. Just apply them in a thicker layer and go to bed – in the morning the lips will be soft and tender. In the hot season or for holidays by the sea in any season, products with a light melting texture that provide rapid hydration are more relevant. It is a must have for office and home cosmetic bags. Use these balms solo or as a base under lipstick.

The composition of hygienic lipsticks and balms must necessarily include moisturizing ingredients: beeswax (due to the high concentration of vitamin A, it accelerates the healing of cracks, has antibacterial and antiseptic properties), vitamins (A, E, C, B12 – nourish and soften the skin of the lips and help restore the epidermis), as well as oils (olive – actively moisturizes and protects against the appearance of cracks and sores; coconut – has healing properties, nourishes and moisturizes; avocado – provides maximum protection and eliminates flaking; wheat germ – eliminates dryness and accelerates regeneration; sesame – moisturizes and has a pronounced antioxidant effect). Remember that the lip balm or cream must have an SPF filter and at least 20 units. The time of year doesn’t matter!

Tip: Don’t buy lip balms that contain petrolatum, paraffin, and mineral oils, as they dry out your lips and can make them worse.

It is good if the lip product contains additional natural ingredients: they improve and complement the main composition. For example, aloe and lemon balm are pleasantly refreshing, rose provides additional hydration, cinnamon, menthol and mint help improve blood microcirculation and slightly increase lip volume, calendula, lavender and honey have an anti-inflammatory effect, and citrus fruits nourish . However, it is better to use balms with such additives carefully and intermittently to avoid allergic reactions. If you can not live without lipstick, for example, a pink tint, then in the cold season, replace it with a caring balm with a color pigment. Such products do not cause any damage to the lips, and they will look fresh.

As for the format of moisturizing lipsticks, there are a lot of them – sticks, balms with a more liquid texture in tubes with a brush, as well as mousses in tubes or rollerballs. You can choose the one that you find most convenient.

Remember that any lip care product should be applied about 10-20 minutes before going out. Use as needed and reapply externally every two hours for maximum effect.

And be sure to pay attention to the expiration date! An open tube is best used within three to four months, after which say goodbye without mercy or regret.
