7 things you should never do if you dye your hair at home

Many hairdressers advise against dyeing your hair at home, but who will listen to them?

There are dozens of reasons not to go to the trade show, and let’s start with the simplest and most common: sometimes events like this just don’t fit into your budget. (We really hope that rarer, more exotic causes like the pandemic and ensuing quarantine are a thing of the past forever.) If you do decide to color at home, do it right — here are some mistakes to avoid.

Mistake #1: Not reading the manual

You can skip this step if you bought new wireless headphones, but not in case of painting: it is very important to know all the nuances of its use, otherwise the result may not be what you want.

Mistake number 2: changing the brand that suits you

“Never use another color brand if you get good results,” advises celebrity hairstylist Anthony Pazos. “It will allow you to achieve long-lasting color, so it is better to go to another store or postpone the procedure if you cannot buy the tool you are used to.”

Mistake #3: Not using two mirrors

Hairstylist Brittany Harring recommends using it as a mirror — it’ll ensure you don’t miss a single section on the back of your head when dyeing your hair without someone’s help.

Mistake #4: Buying only one paint pack

Do you have long and thick hair? Always buy paint for them with a margin. “Hair porosity can change — you never know how much product it can absorb,” says Brittany.

Mistake number 5: washing the paint in hot water

“Hot water will lift the scales from the cuticle and as a result the color will fade much faster. To ‘seal’ the hair and set the new shade, use lukewarm water, and at the end of the procedure, rinse the strands with cold water for five seconds”, advises the famous hairstylist Cody Renegar.

Mistake #6: Washing your hair the next day

If you wash your hair with shampoo every day, then after dyeing your hair, take a step back from your usual beauty routine: take a 48-72 hour break for the color to “set”.

Mistake #7: Use Hot Tools Immediately

“High temperatures can not only cause hair to become discolored, but also dry and brittle. Put heat tools aside for a day or two, and when you start using them, don’t forget about heat protection,” Renegar recommends.
