How to understand that hair is not growing: 6 signs to watch out for

Hair has one serious downside – it grows very slowly (wish the weight behaved the same way!). Sometimes so much so that it is time to ask ourselves: did they not, by chance, go on strike?

According to hairstylist, esthetician, beauty blogger and owner of two of her own beauty salons, Madison Dufour, six signs indicate that it’s time to sound the alarm.

You don’t see the baby hairs

These are tiny, fine hairs that can be seen on the forehead, back of the head, or on the top of the head in the parting area – they look a bit like down. As Dufour explains, this “new” hair must constantly emerge from the follicles, and if this process has stopped, then something has gone wrong.

Hair does not fall out

Sounds a bit paradoxical, doesn’t it? But according to Madison, shedding old hair is a normal process of releasing follicles for new ones. If suddenly it has stopped, this is cause for concern. However, excessive hair loss is also a red flag, so make sure there is approximately the same amount of hair on the comb.

Scalp in poor condition

The key to hair growth is a healthy scalp. If it flakes, becomes sensitive or too dry, it can only affect the condition of your hairstyle. Check if you take good care of your scalp – it’s very important!

The hair has stopped shining

Shine is clear proof that the scalp produces enough sebum – which means it is healthy and functioning as it should, and without it hair growth is impossible.

The hair has become dull

Hair color transformation, Dufour explains, is a normal process — typically the hue changes every seven years. But if suddenly the locks become dull so quickly that you have selfies with the “old” color on your phone, then it’s time to deal with the curls.

You have dandruff

Are you starting to notice white flakes on your shoulders? It is either dandruff or peeling: the first is a symptom of seborrheic dermatitis, the second indicates excessive dryness of the skin. These problems need to be treated in different ways, but both say that the scalp is unhealthy, which will affect hair growth.
