Left – north, right – south: 3 main causes of breast asymmetry after plastic surgery

The doctor has told you the points to consider so as not to regret the breast plastic surgery you have been dreaming of for so long.

Cosmetic breast surgery aims to improve the quality of life of patients, to give them self-confidence and to reveal their sexuality. However, in some cases, the long-awaited plastic can, on the contrary, give rise to additional complexes.

The disappointment may come from the asymmetry of the breast that appeared after a mammoplasty. Patients should be informed about the risks of occurrence even before the operation, because there are prerequisites for this.

When planning cosmetic mammoplasty, women should clearly directly assess “their” clinical picture and understand that each case is individual. As a rule, patients prepare the first consultations in advance: they study all the information on the Internet, find work before/after and already imagine an ideal image of the result of “their” operation.

But the perspective of the patient and that of the surgeon will see completely different initial data. What immediately attracts the attention of a plastic surgeon, many will not even notice. During such consultations, patients often discover for the first time their existing asymmetries and deformities of the bone skeleton, and sometimes these are the structural features of the body to which the body has adapted throughout its life.

Here are the details of the original photo, which the surgeon must necessarily discuss with the patient so that there is no asymmetry.

  1. Asymmetrical position of the shoulders. It allows the doctor to determine the severity of the scoliosis, which could develop in the future and affect the outcome of the operation.
  2. The location of the ribs and the shape of the sternum. The shape of the chest can be funnel-shaped or keeled – these are all congenital malformations of the bony skeleton. The result of cosmetic mammoplasty may depend on the severity of these pathologies. However, with the correct selection of implants of different volumes, profiles and even shapes of implants, it is possible to obtain a good aesthetic result and to correct bone deformities.
  3. Congenital characteristics of milk jelly. These include a large distance between the nipple-areolar complexes in size A/A+ patients, for whom there is no indication for periareolar mastopexy. The problem can be eliminated with augmentation mammoplasty, but some asymmetry may remain, and these are nuances that patients are told about in advance.

It is only with a perfect agreement between the plastic surgeon and the patient, with the joint construction of an operating plan, that a good aesthetic result can be obtained. It is also important to remember that each clinical case requires an individual approach.
