Necessary for all women 40+: what is nail peeling and why should you do it?

We often use scrubs and harsh washcloths to make the skin softer and more beautiful. And we don’t even suspect that our nails need it too. We share a nail expert’s advice on how and why to exfoliate your nails.

In the West, a new type of hand care products has appeared – nail peeling systems. They contain acids and reducing agents. Nail experts are convinced that this product is a real breakthrough in the care of the nail plate. However, who would think that nails need exfoliation? And how is that even possible?

According Dana Stern, an American dermatologist and expert in inflammatory nail diseases, the cells that form the nail are constantly updated – and, like the tiles on the roof, make the nail ever higher and more layered. True, over time, their life cycle ends. They become dead and cause splitting of the nail, a common problem that is very difficult to treat.

In addition, dead nail cells prevent the normal flow of nutrients from the bloodstream. Because of this, the nail plate becomes rough, dry and brittle – especially with age, when metabolic processes in the body slow down.

This problem is especially known to girls with thin nails. The expert is sure that it is the extra cells in the nail that hinder the durability of the gel polish.

It is not necessary to buy special exfoliating complexes for the nails. You can periodically apply to your nails the same products that you use for the body and hands. The main thing is that they have a keratolytic effect, that is, they contribute to exfoliation and softening. For example, glycolic acid or urea must be present in the composition of such products. And the higher the percentage of its content, the better!
