The 1997 Berserk anime series is coming to the AnimeBox streaming platform on August 12, giving subscribers access to one of the most celebrated dark fantasy titles in anime.
The show is based on Kentaro Miura’s manga, which launched in the late 1980s and quickly drew international attention for its dark story and distinctive visual style. The anime adaptation that followed attracted a worldwide audience, and the franchise later expanded into video games, including a Sega Dreamcast title noted for capturing the violence and rawness of the source material.
The series follows Guts, known as the black swordsman, a solitary warrior carrying an enormous blade who wanders in search of revenge against the demonic forces that ruined his life. A major portion of the story reaches back to his younger years inside the Band of the Hawk, a mercenary group led by the charismatic and ambitious Griffith, drawing the plot into a tragic arc of friendship, betrayal, and one man’s struggle against his own fate.
The cheapest AnimeBox plan is priced at 3.99 per month.
