But, a few years before being called to the global project, Ju Paiva joined another group that was also quite famous, especially on social networks: FitDance. The years-old relationship, however, ended in a troubled way. “She made me sick,” she recalls Ju, who was pregnant when she left the group.

The exit, like that of other dancers, was marked by disagreements. The dancer describes the moment with FitDance as a “phase of illusions in work matters”. “I left because I got a lot of offers to choreograph, to do a lot of work, and they didn’t want me to do it anymore, they started boycotting it,” he says.

Ju Paiva further explained that she and then boyfriend Dam Fernandes were being sued by FitDance. “The other dancers, they’ve made deals, like this one to warm up. Because they’ve actually already entered into lawsuits against us and they’re hurting themselves,” she said.

When the legal battle began, the dancer recalls having suffered from stress during a difficult phase of her pregnancy. Lei ju lei says she was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia—when blood pressure rises during pregnancy, which can lead to complications for mother and baby. One of the points that impressed the dancer the most was when they requested Dam’s presence in an audience on the date Fael, who is now 2 years old, was due to be born.

According to Ju, the group has already lost the trial and is appealing the decision. In a statement, FitDance said it “is committed to the best format and practice together in dealings with its contractors” and that it maintains discretion with respect to legal proceedings that may expose third parties.

The dancer also spoke with the Earth on the challenges posed by the competition: from the sudden transfer from Salvador to Rio de Janeiro to the electrifying rhythm of the choreographic creations.

“We receive the music one day at night, prepare the choreography and deliver it to them the next day. Then, I have less than 24 hours to put together a choreography that is assertive to contest a placement, with each different style of dance, and then work even on my partner, who is not a dancer,” says Ju.

Despite the intensity, the dancer seems accomplished with the moment she’s living Famous dance. “It was very enriching, very enriching,” she says.

After all, Ju accepted a huge challenge and jumped in without a second thought. The dancer says that when she received the news that she had been selected to be part of the cast of the program, she only had two days to pack her bags and leave for Rio.

“They said ‘there you are Famous dance, we need you here on Monday’. It was Saturday,” he says. Frightened, Ju asked for some calm to organize how to deal with the change and mentioned his 2-and-a-half-year-old son. With the agreement, the production extended the deadline by one day.

Once there, the dancer stayed on an airlift between Rio and Salvador to appease little Fael’s nostalgia, as well as follow up on the work of the dance school that has opened in the Bahian capital, Live2Dance. Now, entering the final stretch of Famous dancethe immersion is total.

Despite the nostalgia for his son, who kills him daily with video calls, Ju Paiva hopes to return home only when the painting is finished. “If we get to the end, there will be a public vote. So, I’m counting on everyone’s vote, I hope we really reach people’s expectations, do a good job, really cheer for us until the end,” she says.
