Remains have been found in the Mount Baldy mountain region of southern California in the United States, where British actor Julian Sands, 65, disappeared more than five months ago. Authorities were alerted on Saturday morning (25/6) by travelers who came across the human remains.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department confirmed in an official statement that the remains were taken to the coroner’s office for identification. The discovery comes after Julian Sands’ search resumed on June 17, efforts that had been curtailed in February due to adverse weather conditions in the region.
The Career and Disappearance of Julian Sands
Julian Sands is known for his work in films such as ‘A Window on Love’ (1985), ‘Warlock: The Demon’ (1989), ‘Arachnophobia’ (1990), ‘Leaving Las Vegas’ (1995) and ‘Thirteen Men and a new secret” (2007). Sands passed away in January of this year while hiking in the Mount Baldy region.
An accomplished mountaineer, the actor once described himself as happiest “near a mountain top on a glorious cold morning.” At the time of his disappearance, the region had a harsh climate, covered in ice and snow, which made search and rescue work difficult.
A resident of the North Hollywood neighborhood of Los Angeles, Sands lived with his wife, writer Evgenia Citkowitz. The couple have two daughters, Imogen and Natalya, and Sands is also the father of Henry, from his previous marriage to journalist Sarah Sands.
