Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Niall Horan AND Zayn Malik released this Thursday the 17th, a joint tribute to their former One Direction bandmate Liam Paynedied last Monday after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Distributed through the band’s official profile, the message was signed by the quartet. Graduated during the program The X factorthe boy band dominated playlists from 2010 to 2016, when they went on hiatus.

“We are completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing. In time, and when everyone can, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved deeply. The memories we shared with him will be cherished forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, friends and fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him greatly. We love you, Liam,” the lyrics say.

In addition to the joint publication, some of the former traveling companions used their profiles to greet Liam Payne. Louis Tomlinson underlined his friendship with the singer by calling him a “brother”.

For Louis Tomlinson, Liam “was the most vital part” of the band. The singer also revealed that he was constantly talking to his friend about returning to studies.

“Liam was an incredible songwriter with a great sense of melody, we always talked about getting back into the studio together to try and recreate the compositional chemistry we had built in the band. And for the record, Liam was, in my opinion, the most vital part of One Direction. I would love to share the stage with you again, but that wasn’t the case,” he continued.

Liam left behind his son Bear, born in 2017 and the result of his relationship with Cheryl Cole. In his statement, Louis said he will be “the uncle he needs” and will tell the boy stories about his father.

Another former One Direction member who wrote a special post for Liam was Zayn Malik. The first to leave the group, in 2015, the singer opened his heart about the conversations they could still have and highlighted the importance of his friend in difficult times.

“I’ve never been able to thank you for supporting me through some of the most difficult times in my life. When I was homesick at 17, you were always there with a positive look and a reassuring smile. He told me he was my friend and that I was loved,” she wrote.
