The first time I interviewed José Luiz Datena, for the extinct “Diário de S. Paulo”, around 2007, I heard the following phrase from him: “I’m tired of crime journalism.” In the conversation he expressed his desire to leave “Brasil Urgente”. Shortly thereafter I discovered that he said the same thing in every conversation with journalists. And he continued to do so in the following years. Now, almost 20 years later, the presenter seems to have finally gotten what she wanted.

In a meeting with the Band this week, it was decided that the host will not return to the program. The information was published by the “Notícias da TV” portal and confirmed by the column. With a contract until November, Datena will decide her future in 2025, with the possibility of an entertainment attraction. During his time as a police officer, Datena operated a fishing attraction and another Sunday, both of which have now come to an end.

The performance in the candidacy for mayor of São Paulo was one of the factors that allowed the Band to take advantage and renew “Brasil Urgente”, which will continue with Joel Datena, son of the presenter in charge. The presenter’s relations with the broadcaster are good, but at the moment they are uncertain.
