Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) is counting almost 95 million world subscribers from its services combined with HBO Max and Discovery+ in the third quarter of the year from July to September. The period represents the time of the launch of “The Dragon House”, a prologue of “Game of Thrones” which proved immensely popular.
Since the company led by David Zaslav has already reported that he will unify the streaming platforms in a single service in 2023, the figures relating to each platform have not been informed separately.
In the second quarter, WBD said that HBO Max and Discovery+ Subscribers scored 92.1 million, with an increase of 1.7 million compared to 90.4 million compared to the previous quarter.
The current number represents an increase of 2.8 million users worldwide, of which 500,000 in the United States and Canada.
It may seem little, but it is greater than that hit by the leader Netflix in the same period. WBD’s great rival added 2.4 million new subscribers in the third quarter, including a 100,000 gain in North America, to reach 223.1 million all over the world at the end of September.
In the report published Thursday (3/11), WBD also revealed a net loss of $ 2.3 billion in the third quarter, which included $ 1.92 billion in the demort of the activities related to the renovation of the company after the merger between Warner and Discovery.
This means that the company will still have to cut many expenses to seek financial balance.
In a declaration, the company’s main manager recognized a demanding operating environment. “We are reset and transforming the organization in the future by promoting synergy throughout the company, increasing our goal for at least 3.5 billion dollars and making significant progress in our DTC products [streaming] Together, “said David Zaslav.” Although we have much more work to do and some decisions that are difficult to make again, we have full conviction of the opportunity in front of us “.
