Charles spends his first birthday as king in private, with no planned public engagements.
King Charles celebrated his 74th birthday on Monday the 14th when he replaced his late father as ‘The Ranger of Great Windsor Park’, a title which dates back more than four centuries.
Charles, who became the oldest monarch in British history when he succeeded his mother’s throne in September, is spending his first birthday as king in private with no scheduled public engagements.
However, Buckingham Palace has announced it has officially taken up its new role as Ranger, a job that dates back to 1559 when Queen Elizabeth I appointed Henry Neville, and posted a new photograph of Charles beside an old oak tree in the park.
Her father, Prince Philip, has held the title since 1952, when his wife became Queen Elizabeth II.
Queen Victoria is among other royals charged with overseeing and guiding the deputy ranger and his staff in the day-to-day running of one of the oldest properties in the country, the palace said.
