The NGO decided to remove the activist’s name and is now called Instituto Caramelo. In a statement, the institution revealed that the change occurred because the presenter, contrary to what many think, has never helped the organization with donations.
“The Luisa Mell Institute is now the Caramelo Institute! The new name is the way we found to honor the caramel stray, a character known and loved on social media, who inspires our work every day in the face of the reality of abandonment and of ill-treatment in our country”, reads the text published on social networks.
The NGO also explained why they had initially adopted the name Luisa Mell: “The choice for the Institute to take the name ‘Luisa Mell’ was to help as many animals as possible, starting from a well-known brand with a real job behind it “. .
The organization said that Luisa Mell was contacted by a group of volunteers who were already working with the animal cause when the NGO was founded in 2015. The intention, according to the text, was to give visibility to the institution – the presenter had a program on RedeTV!, the Late Show, which promoted the rescue of abused animals and involved donation campaigns.
The text states that the change occurred with the intention of “depersonifying the work and separating individual positions and interests from the purpose of the group”.
