The National Book Awards have announced that the actress will no longer host the event after revealing she will be resuming her talk show amid the shutdown of Hollywood actors and screenwriters
Drew Barrymore was criticized by fellow professionals after announcing the return of her talk show, Drew Barrymore Show. The announcement of the new season of the program takes place in the middle Hollywood strike.
Although it does not technically break the strike, given that it has a contract with Network Television Code and not with the AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers), some of the programme’s writers are linked to the trade union.
Following the closure, these employees would not have been able to work, but, to resume the new season of the program, the actress would have had to force them to work. On Instagram the artist spoke openly.
Drew said he supported the choice to resume the talk show next Monday, the 18th, and guaranteed that the artists who participate in the program will not comment on the productions in which they participate. This is because one of the rules of the strike is that actors do not promote their work.
“We agree not to discuss or promote blockbuster films. I want to provide what writers do so well, which is a way to unite us or to help us make sense of the human experience. I hope for a solution for everything as soon as possible. as quickly as possible. I step forward to begin Season 4 once again with astute humility,” he said.
On Tuesday the 12th, the National Book Awards announced that Drew will no longer present one of the most important literary prizes in the United States. The ceremony will take place in November this year and, according to the New York Times, the actress was removed from the show after some writers criticized her participation.
“The National Book Awards are an evening dedicated to celebrating the power of literature and the unparalleled contributions of writers to our culture. In light of the announcement that ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’ will resume production, the National Book Foundation has rescinded its invitation by Ms. Barrymore to host the 74th National Book Awards ceremony,” the statement read.
