Preta spent the last months of life living in the United States, where he had had an experimental treatment against cancer. When he died, he was about to return to Brazil.
“This black struggle for life not only moved us, but called us to responsibility. The times in the United States went to surround it with the utmost comfort possible. It went there to continue the struggle for life was something that belonged to us,” added Gilberto Gil, 83 years old.
