Ozzy Osbourne, a singer who marked the history of Heavy Metal as a founder of Black Sabbath, died on Monday (22 July) at the age of 76. Death was officially communicated by his family, which highlighted the affection and presence of dearly at the time of death. “It is with a sadness that words cannot express that we inform that our dear Ozzy Osbourne died this morning. He was with his family, surrounded by love,” says the declaration.
The singer’s death certificate, released on Tuesday (05), revealed that Osbourne died of an acute myocardial infarction, aggravated by a cardiac arrest and suffering from coronary diseases and complications associated with Parkinson’s. The document was presented to the press by his daughter, Aimée Osbourne, in London.
Previously, the artist had publicly reported his diagnosis of Parkinson’s in 2019. Since then, he has undergone several surgical interventions and has revealed motor difficulties. Even in front of these challenges, he decided to perform in a last show in early July in Birmingham, where he was even buried. The farewell presentation, named after the beginning, was held with him sitting on a stylized throne, strengthening the physical limits, but without sacrificing performance.
The farewell ceremony was marked by a procession on the streets of Birmingham on Wednesday (30 July), followed by a funeral reserved for family and close friends Thursday (31 July), in the gardens of the home where Ozzy lived in Buckinghamshire. There were artists such as Elton John, Zakk Wylde, Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, members of the Metallica and Black Sabbath himself.
In life, the singer expressed the desire to be buried in a garden, next to a apple tree. “Sharon said not to be cremated. I want to be buried in a beautiful garden somewhere, with a tree planted above my head,” he revealed in his autobiography. In an interview with The Times, he commented on his funeral: “I want to make sure that my funeral is a celebration, not a complaint. I would also like some games – perhaps the sound of rhythms inside the coffin”.
During his career, Osbourne starred in extraordinary moments, such as the episode in which he bit a club on stage. After leaving Black Sabbath in 1979, he built a successful solo trajectory and returned to the group in 1997, with which he recorded his latest studio album in 2013. He was also presented in a family reality show in the 2000s, Osbournes, broadcast by MTV.
Ozzy leaves his wife, Sharon Osbourne, and six children: Aimee, Kelly, Jack, Jessica, Louis and Elliot.
