Globo announces a drastic change in the debate coverage of presidential candidates in 2026

Globo announced a change in programming during the event. The broadcasts will take place after the Jornal Nacional in the 2026 elections.

TV Globo has announced that it will broadcast the debates with the candidates for the Presidency of the Republic 2026 in the time traditionally occupied by the nine o’clock soap opera, immediately after the Jornal Nacional. The broadcaster announced the change to the schedule during Upfront, an event dedicated to the advertising market, held this Monday (13th).

The journalists César Tralli and Renata Vasconcellos, who will soon share the bench of the Jornal Nacional, were responsible for presenting the news to those present at the event, which took place at the broadcaster’s headquarters.

The change comes after the experience of 2022, when the presidential debates, led by journalist William Bonner, reached significant audiences and generated repercussions on social media, with memes and online discussions.

The broadcaster did not provide details on the length of the debates or how many meetings will be held during the election period. There is also no confirmation on which candidates will participate or who will mediate the discussions.

With this change, viewers will be able to follow the debates at a more accessible time, unlike the format adopted in previous elections, when broadcasts took place later.

The decision sparked mixed reactions on social media. “I thought this was a good thing,” commented user José. “Lula’s request in 2022 has been granted. The poor man who needs to get up early the next day cannot stay until dawn after a debate,” Ricardo wrote.

Other Internet users expressed different opinions on the change. “They want an audience,” Raphael Drummond said. “Next year we will enjoy Globo’s live debates,” commented Milton.

At the same event Tralli presented the news to GloboNews. “Look at the show. Writing, sets, a giant screen. We will have a lot of technology, a lot of new commercial formats for you, our partners, because we love advertising,” the journalist declared.

Renata Vasconcellos added before concluding her participation: “We love dreaming together. What a great job you have done.”
