Netflix announced on social media that “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay” director Francis Lawrence will direct the adaptation of the “BioShock” game for streaming. The screenplay was written by Michael Green, who worked on “Logan” and “Blade Runner 2049”.
The project has existed since 2008 and has undergone several configurations before coming to streaming.
Set entirely in an underwater city, the film was budgeted at $ 160 million for 13 years. At the time, the screenplay was by John Logan (“007 – Operation Skyfall”) and was to become the first superproduction of Spanish artist Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, who made his Hollywood debut with the horror “Exterminas 2” (2007).
Released in 2007, the shooter takes place in the 1960s and follows the fall of Rapture, a utopian city created for the rich and famous submarines. The protagonist is Jack, a man who enters the city after suffering a plane crash and discovers a mad population, after a plasmid in the region has given superhuman powers to those who consume it. He teams up with the few healthy inhabitants of the place to try to find a way to escape the millionaire “paradise”.
According to The Wrap, Netflix has ordered a trilogy based on the premise.
