Actress and singer Hilary Duff crossed paths with her first husband Mike Comrie over the weekend at their son's soccer game in Los Angeles.
The former couple share 14-year-old son Lucas together following their six-year marriage, which lasted from 2010 to 2016.
Duff, 39, sat on the sidelines with the other soccer moms during the weekend event. However, she did not appear to interact with the 46-year-old former NHL star.
Comrie was spotted near the players on the pitch and was also seen moving pieces of equipment for the game. He strolled across the pitch to help set up the field for the day.
Duff kept things casual for the sporting outing, wearing a pair of blue pinstripe shorts paired with a simple white T-shirt and a baseball cap.
Proving that she did not need any A-list celebrity treatment at the game, Duff surprised onlookers by sitting on the ground next to a trash can brimming with garbage.
Sideline encounter and past relationship
Comrie, a former professional ice hockey player in the National Hockey League, was dressed in a grey T-shirt, black shorts, and white sneakers as he moved around the pitch.
Duff first rose to fame as a teen idol starring in the Disney Channel series Lizzie McGuire before building a multi-platinum career in pop music and film.
The weekend gathering in Los Angeles marked a public reunion for the former couple, who finalized their divorce ten years ago.
Reflections on a tough divorce
The Come Clean hitmaker previously opened up about her painful divorce from Comrie during an interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast back in February. Call Her Daddy is a popular interview podcast hosted by Alex Cooper.
Duff shared that the split came after a mutual realization. "It just got to a point where it wasn't going to be," Duff explained during the interview.
She recalled that the decision was collaborative and straightforward. "I think he was good with it because I was like, 'Here's this, this, this.' And he was like, 'Great.' This was before conscious uncoupling was a thing," she said.
Duff noted that her own upbringing made the step particularly difficult. "My parents went through such a bad divorce that calling it made it really painful, but like, we are not together anymore, so obviously it was bad enough that it just wasn't working," she shared.
The singer emphasized that ending the marriage was a necessary decision. "I'm not just like, 'I up and left.' It was a collaborative thing that needed to happen. But you gotta fight for yourself and it doesn't matter that you have kids. Your kids are going to be okay," Duff added.
The pop star explained that the divorce was really tough because their son Lucas was just two years old at the time.
"It was a really scary time to just not want to f*** up your kid," Duff admitted. "You put all of your stuff aside and I had to deal with all of that later to just make sure that he was okay."
Moving forward and family life
Following the split, the Mature songstress had a lot of therapy while navigating the dating world. She briefly dated personal trainer Jason Walsh and Love Machine co-founder Ely Sandvik.
Duff later settled down with musician, songwriter, and record producer Matthew Koma in 2017. The couple officially married in 2019.
Duff and Koma now share three daughters together: seven-year-old Banks, five-year-old Mae, and two-year-old Townes.
Music comeback and world tour
Duff is currently gearing up for the second leg of her sold out Lucky Me world tour.
She released her comeback album, Luck... Or Something, in February. The album reached No. 3 on the US Billboard 200 chart and topped the national charts in both Australia and Canada.
During a concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City last month, Duff got the crowd screaming when she brought out her ex-boyfriend Joel Madden and his pop-punk band Good Charlotte.
The unexpected performance came two decades after Duff and Madden dated between 2004 and 2006, when their romance made them major tabloid fixtures.
Madden and Duff have remained on good terms in the intervening years and now hang out with their respective spouses.
Madden has been with media personality and fashion designer Nicole Richie, 44, for almost 20 years. They first met and started dating in late 2006, shortly after his breakup from Duff.
