Holly Willoughby laughs at 'Are you okay?' with Alan Carr

Television presenter Holly Willoughby was left in hysterics after comedian Alan Carr accidentally repeated her infamous This Morning question during her new YouTube show.

The light-hearted moment occurred during the latest episode of Willoughby's series, Together, while she and Carr were drinking cocktails alongside comedian Lee Peart. After both admitted the alcohol had suddenly hit them, Carr innocently asked if she was okay, prompting Willoughby to reply that she was fine before the comic realized what he had said.

"Oh God! Are you okay?" Carr repeated in dismay as he grasped the blunder. Willoughby exclaimed: "Not again! That's my line!" before the trio erupted into laughter, with Carr joking: "I'm stealing your catchphrase."

Holly Willoughby has never been able to live down the moment she asked This Morning viewers: 'Are you okay?'

Carr is a British stand-up comedian and broadcaster best known for hosting the television chat show Chatty Man. Peart is a stand-up comedian and presenter who has worked as a warm-up host on major television productions, including ITV daytime broadcasts.

Everyday conversations and catchphrase anxiety

The on-screen mishap led Willoughby to confess that she has become exceptionally conscious of the phrase in her daily life, explaining that ordinary social interactions now present an unexpected challenge.

When Peart asked whether the memorable line still haunted her, Willoughby admitted that she struggles with simple greetings. "I swear to God, really basic everyday stuff, like 'Are you okay?' which you say every day. And I now can't say it. It's got to stop," she said.

The presenter explained that she has spent time trying to find alternative ways to greet friends and acquaintances without repeating the question. "Are you alright? How are you doing? I've thought of all the different versions of this," she added.

Willoughby also revealed that other people frequently panic when they realise they have asked her the exact question in conversation. She explained that she often has to reassure them that "it is okay" to put them at ease.

But three years after she opened the ITV show with the question - after her former best friend Phillip Schofield exited the ITV programme amid his confession he had an affair with a much young collage - she managed to poke fun at herself

The This Morning speech and viral memes

The exchange, which features in Friday's instalment of Together, comes more than three years after Willoughby delivered the monologue to This Morning viewers on ITV.

Willoughby had opened the live magazine programme following a two-week absence from the screen, addressing the audience directly. She said to viewers: "Firstly, are you okay? I hope so. It feels very strange indeed sitting here without Phil."

Her opening words came after her former best friend and longtime co-host Phillip Schofield exited the ITV programme amid his confession that he had an affair with a much younger colleague and had lied about the relationship.

The broadcast quickly became an internet sensation, inspiring countless memes and parodies across social media, with the opening question proving especially difficult to forget. More than three years later, Willoughby appears happy to have the last laugh by embracing the joke on her own series.

Celebrity guests on YouTube show Together

The episode featuring Carr and Peart is the latest instalment of Together, a lifestyle and interview series published on Willoughby's official YouTube channel.

Previous episodes of the show have featured a variety of celebrity guests taking part in relaxed activities and light-hearted games. Willoughby has made fresh pasta with actor Stanley Tucci, played "Snog, Marry, Avoid" with comedian Katherine Ryan, and tried on velour tracksuits with Joanne McNally.

Tucci is an acclaimed American film actor and food writer, Ryan is a prominent comedian and author, and McNally is an Irish stand-up comedian who appeared on the BBC reality competition series The Traitors.

The YouTube show has also explored deeply emotional subjects alongside comedic discussions. In one instalment, Willoughby broke down in tears during an interview with bereaved mother Ellen Roome, whose 14-year-old son, Jools Sweeney, died in April 2022.

After Holly and Alan both admitted the drink had suddenly 'hit them,' Alan innocently asked: 'Are you okay?

Viewing figures and departure from ITV

The digital series has shown early commercial traction. The first episode attracted 41,000 views on the day of its release, outperforming Richard Osman's media analysis series The Rest is Entertainment, which launched a new episode on the same day and received 29,000 views.

Osman is an author and television presenter known for hosting game shows, whose media podcast and YouTube series The Rest is Entertainment examines television and entertainment news.

The production marks the latest chapter in Willoughby's gradual return to public life. The presenter stepped down from This Morning in October 2023, ending her long tenure on the flagship ITV programme.

Her exit in October 2023 came following the revelation of a horrifying plot to kidnap and murder her, which prompted her departure from daily television broadcasting.

Her departure also came five months after This Morning was engulfed in widespread controversy when Schofield admitted to his relationship with a younger colleague, plunging the daytime programme into months of crisis.

Kidnapping plot and changed perspective

Speaking to Katie Hind of the Daily Mail seven months after she revealed the project, Willoughby said she was not worried about the public reaction to Together.

Addressing potential criticism, she stated: "I know I'm not everyone's cup of tea. I know that and that's fine. I don't want to try to convince people if they don't want to watch."

Referring directly to her terrifying stalking and kidnapping ordeal, Willoughby explained that surviving a genuine threat to her life had transformed how she handles public opinion.

"I don't fear what people think. I've had real fear, I know what that's like. Your perspective changes after something like that," Willoughby said.
