House flies join mosquitoes as a summer nuisance, contaminating food and surfaces around the home. They breed quickly and can travel up to 1.5 to 2 kilometers, making them almost impossible to eliminate entirely.
An expert from the YouTube channel Zen Garden Oasis shared a simple homemade mixture to help get rid of the pests, according to agroforum.hu.
How to make it
The expert said the base is warm water mixed with two tablespoons of egg powder, though raw eggs can work too. The same amount of sugar and one teaspoon of yeast go in next, followed by a splash of apple cider vinegar for a strong scent.
Finally, a teaspoon of liquid soap is added, which breaks the surface tension so flies cannot stay afloat. Fish emulsion can also be added for an even more lasting smell, the expert said.
Where to place it
The mixture should be poured into containers and set a safe distance from the house or frequently used spots in the garden, such as a barbecue or terrace. Smaller containers placed elsewhere can boost the effect, according to the expert. Scientists have previously found that catnip leaves in a pocket can repel mosquitoes more effectively than pharmacy products.
