Ukrainian singer Ivan Liulenov has responded for the first time to public criticism after the premiere of his song Ikona drew backlash from believers.
For the premiere of the track, Liulenov used biblical styling and appeared in the image of a priest. A portion of religious believers interpreted the artistic choice as an insult and publicly criticized him.

Speaking in an exclusive comment to the television show Blyshche do zirok on the TET channel, Liulenov explained the meaning behind the composition and rejected claims that the release was a deliberate provocation.
Liulenov said he does not deliberately create provocations or scandals, adding that he considers such behavior inappropriate when circumstances are already tense and toxic. He stated that he had no intention to offend anyone and described the track as a light song about a girl. He explained that the word icon was used as a symbol to show that a woman is very beautiful and that he is in love with her.
The artist noted that he did not seek to attract attention through scandal and is currently focused on his music.
