Australian television pioneer Johnny Young has died at the age of 79 following a brief battle with pancreatic cancer, his family confirmed in a statement on Friday.
The host and producer of the iconic Australian variety show Young Talent Time passed away after helping launch the careers of numerous prominent entertainers across the country.
Singer and television personality Dannii Minogue, whose career began on the program, led tributes to the legendary broadcaster on social media. She wrote on Instagram that her "heart is broken" following the news of his death.
Minogue, 54, joined the cast of Young Talent Time when she was just eight years old, becoming a familiar face to millions of Australian viewers throughout the 1980s.
She shared a series of nostalgic photographs and video clips from her time on the beloved variety show as she reflected on the man who helped launch her career. Minogue credited Young with giving her the opportunity that set her on the path to a decades-long career in the entertainment industry.
"Johnny Young holds a place in so many hearts, and today my heart is broken," she wrote on Instagram.
She praised his contributions to music, songwriting, and family television, before recalling the weekly spectacle that his program delivered to Australian audiences.
"His show brought 17 years of colour, choreography, sequins, music and smiles to our Saturday nights," she wrote.
The performer noted that generations of viewers continue to hold fond memories of Young Talent Time and its famous closing song, All My Loving. She also offered her condolences to Young's relatives and the program's extended family of performers, crew members, and students.
Minogue concluded her message with a poignant reference to Young's famous sign-off, describing his death as "a very sad Goodnight Australia."

Minogue's older sister Kylie Minogue, who also made appearances on Young Talent Time during her youth, commented on the Instagram post to share her own tributes and memories.
"Embedded into all our hearts and memories. YTT 4 Ever and RIP Johnny Young. My condolences to his family and all the YTT fans," Kylie Minogue wrote.
She added: "Such formative years for my sister and her team that became like family to her. I'm sending all my love for a group Goodnight Australia for the one and only Johnny Young."
Singer Tina Arena, another star discovered through the show, also paid tribute to Young on Instagram, expressing her profound loss following the news.
"I'm struggling to find the words today to express the profound loss of a man who allowed, and equally encouraged, me to find my voice!" Arena wrote.
She added: "Just know that you leave behind a beautiful legacy that we will continue to uphold because you deserve that, and much more. RIP darling John. Tina x."

In a post shared on X, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Young gave Australia "the gift of joy" throughout his long career in broadcasting and entertainment.
"A wonderful singer in his own right, he established himself in our homes and our hearts as the genial and generous host of Young Talent Time, the launchpad for an incredible new generation of entertainers," Albanese wrote. "How lucky we were to have him. May he rest in peace."
Young hosted Young Talent Time for its entire television run from 1971 until 1988, with the program credited with discovering major stars including Tina Arena and Dannii Minogue.
Minogue's Career After Young Talent Time
Minogue left Young Talent Time after six years in 1988 to focus on her acting career, where she was soon cast in the hit Australian television drama Home And Away.
The performer went on to launch her music career in the 1990s and has since released five albums, achieving nine Top 10 singles and 13 consecutive number-one dance singles in the United Kingdom.
She has also acted as a judge on television talent shows including The X Factor UK and Australia's Got Talent, as well as hosting the BBC reality shows I Kissed A Boy and I Kissed A Girl.
