Kim Zolciak and Kroy Biermann's 15-year-old son, Kroy Biermann Jr, known as KJ, has been released on a $200,000 bond after being charged in a sex assault case involving a female classmate.
Fulton County Superior Court Judge Melynee Leftridge granted the bond order in Georgia on Friday, almost a month after the teenager's August 17 arrest.
As part of his bond conditions, KJ must stay at his famous mother's home and attend school virtually. He must also abstain from social media and cellphone use and will be subject to electronic monitoring by authorities. The teenager is barred from having any direct or indirect contact with his alleged victim, her family or anyone under the age of 16.
The incident with the female classmate allegedly occurred at a Life Time fitness center in Alpharetta, Georgia, on April 23. KJ was indicted by a grand jury on seven felony charges, including aggravated child molestation, aggravated sodomy, aggravated sexual battery, three counts of sexual battery against a child under 16, and false imprisonment. Charges of this kind rank among the most serious sex offenses under Georgia law and can carry decades-long prison sentences for defendants convicted as adults.

Zolciak rose to fame on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, the long-running Bravo reality series following a group of women in the Atlanta area, before headlining her own spinoff, Don't Be Tardy, alongside Biermann, a former NFL linebacker who played for the Atlanta Falcons. The couple share KJ along with several other children and are currently in the middle of a contentious separation and divorce that has yet to be finalized.
Prosecutor cites prior juvenile case
In court on Friday, Deputy District Attorney Caitlin McGillicuddy claimed KJ had previously been charged with sexual battery of a minor in October 2025, six months before the alleged incident with the classmate. That case was adjudicated in juvenile court, and KJ is currently under court supervision that is set to expire in 2027.
Attorney disputes prosecutor's claims
KJ's attorney, Jason Sheffield, denied McGillicuddy's characterization of the earlier case. In a statement to the Daily Mail, he said: "The characterizations made in court regarding the prior juvenile matter involving KJ Biermann grossly misrepresent both the facts and the ultimate resolution of that case."
"The matter arose from inappropriate, crude behavior involving two middle-schoolers," Sheffield said. "It did not result in an adjudication for statutory rape, sexual intercourse, or any comparable offense. Any suggestion otherwise is inaccurate and creates a materially misleading impression of how the juvenile matter was ultimately resolved."
Arguments at the bond hearing
Pleading for KJ's bond on Friday, Sheffield told the judge: "This has been so traumatizing to [KJ] personally. He is not a boisterous kid. He is somewhat quiet."
McGillicuddy responded that the alleged victim in the April case had suffered "documented physical injury" as a result of the alleged incident, which she described as "predatory."
Earlier in the week, Sheffield filed a transfer request with the Fulton County Court seeking to move KJ's case to Georgia's juvenile justice system, arguing that the teenager, who is facing the possibility of a 25-year prison sentence, is young enough to be rehabilitated. Georgia's juvenile system generally emphasizes rehabilitation over punishment for minors, in contrast to the adult criminal courts where far longer sentences can be imposed.
Parents present a united front
KJ was supported by both his parents at the bond hearing. Kim and Kroy are in the middle of a contentious separation and divorce that has yet to be finalized, but the two put their differences aside to present something of a united front in court.
Kim remained "stone-faced" while sitting beside her daughter Brielle Biermann, 29, according to an eyewitness for the Daily Mail, while Kroy appeared "stressed." Kim and Brielle both declined to answer reporters' questions about the case while leaving the courtroom.
Zolciak maintains her son's innocence
Last month, Zolciak hit out at the allegations and maintained KJ's innocence in a statement to the Daily Mail, branding them "reckless and deeply troubling."
"He categorically denies ever being involved with this woman or engaging in the conduct she has alleged," Zolciak said. "My son voluntarily took a polygraph examination regarding these allegations and passed," she claimed. "Additionally, an examination was conducted, and no DNA belonging to my son was found."
"We remain confident that the facts and evidence will establish the truth, and we ask that people allow the proper process to take its course rather than spreading unproven allegations."
