Becoming a former BBB has also become synonymous with indulging in aesthetic procedures, such as facial toning. This is the case of Gabriel Santana, recently eliminated from Big Brother Brasil 23 and another fan of face changes.

Sometimes, the transformation is quite amazing, others that don’t show much difference and there are those that don’t go along with the public’s taste.

The fact is that the procedure has become fashionable among famous and anonymous people. Male searches for the procedure grew 255 percent between 2014 and 2019 alone, according to data from the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery.

Between criticism and praise, some questions arise about how facial harmonization actually works: is it reversible? How to avoid exaggeration? What are hangovers? OR Earth interviewed a specialist and will explain it to you in detail!

Harmonizing treatments can be done gradually.

Is facial harmonization reversible?

Ticiana Campos, a dentist specializing in facial aesthetics, reveals that some attunements can be reversible and others not. Everything will depend on the procedure, the material used and the technique used by the professional. “We don’t even say it’s an ‘intervention’. The main question that the patient should ask before the procedure is to talk about the current state of health and ask whether the products are absorbable or not,” she emphasizes.

The expert points out that harmonization is the only specialty in the health sector with a focus on the face. “It is a set of minimally invasive procedures that involve a great transformation for the patient from an anatomical point of view and that is why it has become a trend in Brazil,” he explains.

In the past, the doctor exemplifies, a patient who needed to put a chin prosthesis or undergo orthognathic surgery to adjust the region, today manages to have a good result with harmonization. In addition to aesthetics, the procedure can help for health: “We dentists are able to give good results to our patients through minimally invasive techniques”, she points out.

gradually

Harmonizing treatments can be done gradually. This way the patient will have a better idea of the results. Of course, sometimes at the time of the procedure it is already possible to see the result. But in other cases, we need a month to see the differences.

According to Ticiana, the secret is to have a good conversation with the patient, make a good diagnosis and make a treatment plan. Information ends up being the basis of everything: “A well-informed patient is unlikely to get a negative result with facial harmonization. It is also important to perform the procedure on healthy patients, using products with long-term support and studies,” she assesses.

treatment

Lucas Miranda, dermatologist member of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology, explains that aesthetic procedures are subject to intercurrences, regardless of whether they are more or less invasive. “In the case of procedures with hyaluronic acid, complications are rare, however they have occurred more and more. More and more people have access to care and more professionals are working in the area as well,” he completes.

In general, hyaluronic acid is used in facial procedures, such as remodeling, facial harmonization, lip filling, malar (rejuvenation effect) and so on. “The face is a highly irrigated and complex region with many anatomical structures and hundreds of vessels. Some regions of the face can suffer from vascular occlusion (the act of momentarily blocking blood flow) from the application of fillers,” reveals the doctor.

The dermatologist reiterates that it is essential that professionals are highly qualified so that the patient is safer. In addition to the technique, which must be very accurate, another caveat is in relation to the quantities. «The less hyaluronic acid used, the less likely these complications will occur. It is also possible to map high-risk regions with ultrasound to see exactly where the vessels are,” he concludes.
