Besides filling the heart with positive feelings, love is also associated with hormonal actions that promote health and well-being.
Today, June 12, we celebrate the Saint Valentine, a date to praise love. The representation of this day sends us a message that it is a time to celebrate and celebrate affection, affection, passion and all the feelings related to the bonds of love.

Today the day vibrates with romantic energies due to the atmosphere of passion created by couples and the media in general, especially social networks which tirelessly exalt romance at all times.
The date can be bad for singles – or at least for the part of people who suffer the discomfort of loneliness. But it is undeniable that love, such a genuine and often misunderstood feeling, affects our physical and emotional balance, says psychoanalyst Dr. Andrea Ladislau.
Oxytocin – the love hormone
“When we love, we can make ourselves feel stronger emotionally. Also because we are in free production of the love hormone, one of the neurotransmitters of happiness, which is oxytocin,” explains the specialist. Andrea points out that oxytocin has excellent benefits for our body and mind, such as:
- Increases the feeling of well-being;
- Reduces stress;
- Decreases anxiety;
- Remove fears;
- Increases self-esteem;
- Improve depression.
The psychoanalyst explains that adequate hormone production will affect our behavior, the creation of memories, recognition, attachment, generosity, empathy, among other behaviors related to social and personal interactions. “On the other hand, words of love and affectionate gestures are never too many and they transform anyone’s day! The important thing is to have the conscience and the freedom to be able to express one’s feelings”, he underlines.
Why is it so important to love?
Love is also a weapon against disease, as it improves our immune defences, Andrea points out. “And in times, like the present ones, where everything is for yesterday and relationships end up trampled on making them more superficial and automated, this sentiment is also the greatest weapon against hatred, indifference, intolerance and conflicts” , adds the psychoanalyst.
According to the practitioner, feeling is also a key to curbing the immediacy of life. This phenomenon means that we don’t have time to observe those around us or to point out the small details and situations involving human relationships.
“Therefore, to greet love and experience it in all its fullness, the ideal is to offer the best of yourself and be open to receiving the love that the other can also give you. After all, love is one of the nobler things that we can have and must always value. So take advantage of this day to express your love, send messages to your loved ones and say that you miss them”, advises Andrea Ladislau.
Finally, the psychoanalyst points out that the practice of love should not be limited to today. On the contrary, we have to be open throughout the year. “Love must be practiced in every moment of our lives and always combined with respect and empathy for others. The important thing is to spread love and be sincere and consistent with one’s emotions”, he underlines.
