Cheese Bread Day and conscious consumption
“If you decide to occasionally include cheese bread in your diet as a snack, it is important to control the portion size. An adequate serving would be a small portion of about one or two units and depending on the size. However, it is recommended to add fruit and a source of protein to round out this snack,” says Dereck.
Oak’s argument is that, other than the high load of calories, saturated fat and sodium, which only harm cardiovascular health in excess, cheesy bread isn’t a significant source of essential nutrients, such as fiber and protein.
As such, it is denser in calories and fat than other nutrients, which doesn’t offer a good combination for good workout performance and even optimizing post-workout recovery.
“To get an idea of how caloric a portion of cheese bread is, an average unit of about 30g has between 70 and 100kcal depending on the recipe, i.e. a portion of five medium cheese loaves has something between 420 and 500kcal” , emphasizes the nutritionist.
So, what foods replace cheese bread in the diet?
“Given its unhealthy nutritional profile, it is not the best choice for frequent inclusion in the diet, especially for those seeking a healthy and balanced lifestyle. It is advisable to favor foods rich in nutrients such as fruit, vegetables, lean proteins and complex carbohydrates,” suggests the pro.
French bread or cheese bread? What is the most caloric?
“In general, cheese bread is higher in calories than French bread due to the cheese content and additional fats found in cheese bread. While French bread tends to be ‘lighter.’ it can vary depending on serving size and the specific ingredients used in each recipe,” concludes clinical and sports nutritionist Dereck Oak.
Adapt the cheese bread recipe for an athlete

ingredients
- Three tablespoons of tapioca gum;
- two tablespoons of standard grated Minas cheese without lactose, added sugars and total fat;
- Two tablespoons of lactose-free cottage cheese, added sugar and total fat;
- An egg;
- Pinch of salt.
Method of preparation
- Mix all the ingredients well;
- Put it in silicone molds and then bring it in the air fryer at 180°C for an average of 6-7 minutes;
- Pick up and serve later.
