It might be easier for many people who have a busy routine, but it’s a big mistake to go to bed with wet hair. Not just because you’ll end up leaving your hair all messed up for the next morning and you’d be at great risk of having one bad hair day (English expression referring to a day when a person is dissatisfied with the appearance of their hair).

Danger n. 1: risk of infections
Warm, humid environments are a “full plate” for bacteria and fungi: the hotter and more humid it is, the more they prefer to live in their home. This is because prolonged humidity creates an environment conducive to the growth of bacteria and fungi on the scalp, which can also spread to sensitive areas of the face and neck during the night.
These bacteria can clog the scalp, cause inflammation and trigger infections such as dandruff, ringworm, folliculitis and dermatitis. Additionally, moisture in your pillow can accumulate dirt and hair product residue, creating another breeding ground for bacteria.
Danger n.2: Greater chance of breakage
This can be harmful to hair keratin, the protein that makes up the structure of hair and provides strength and elasticity. When hair is damp for an extended period, it absorbs water and swells, causing the hair cuticles to open, making the strands more susceptible to damage. This is increased by the friction caused by the weight of the head and the rubbing of the hair against the pillow during night movements.

Moisture in your hair can cause unpleasant odors if your hair does not dry completely overnight.
Even so, on some days it is inevitable to wash your hair at night, the ideal protocol is to dry it with a hairdryer, but if your routine does not even include this time, some tricks help to minimize the risks of sleeping with wet hair.
Are they:
- Wash at the beginning of the shower, wetting your hair as little as possible;
- Use conditioner to reduce the friction of your hair with the pillow;
- Use a separate towel to dry your hair and dry your scalp well;
- Use a silk pillowcase or bonnet;
- Wash the pillowcase the next day;
- Use hair oils that protect the integrity of your hair before going to bed.
