“There are no impediments to the consumption of fruit for diabetics and this, fortunately, is a myth. Diabetics must reduce sugars, especially added sugars, processed products and white flours in general”, he assures in an exclusive interview at Sport Life the nutritionist Beatriz Finizola.

Therefore Beatriz’s statement denotes that excessive consumption of carbohydrates can be harmful for this group of people, the suggestion is to balance the quantities and distribute them throughout the day.

Another tip is to increase your protein and fiber intake, a choice that simply impacts better digestion of these carbohydrates and control of glycemic spikes.

“Fruit in general contains smaller amounts of carbohydrates, which means a low glycemic load, and can be a good ally, contrary to what many people think,” added the nutritionist.

What is the impact of fructose on diabetics?

“Fruits in general contain small amounts of fructose. Harmful fructose only comes from industrialized products, which contain, for example, fructose syrup,” concluded Beatriz Finizola.
