From covering mirrors to abstaining from sex, discover some typical Lent traditions you probably didn’t know about
A lent It begins after Carnival and is the 44 days preceding the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It used to last 40 days, but the Supreme Pontiff Paul VI extended the period a few years ago. There are several common traditions of this period.
So, with that in mind, we decided to reminisce ancient traditions and typical of Lent that you may or may not know. Look down:
Lent: custom of covering mirrors
Surely you have seen your grandmother or even your mother cover or put away mirrors during Lent. Mirrors are portals to other dimensions and since during the Lenten period we are more sensitive to negative energies and vibrations, many have the habit of covering or putting away mirrors.
Cover the saints
Catholic saints are covered with a purple cloth during Lent. It is a form of solidarity and profound union with the passion of Christ. It’s not like mourning, it’s a moment of reflection. The crosses are covered on Ash Wednesday and uncovered on Good Friday. The saints, however, are stripped of their clothes during the Easter vigil.
Lent: fasting from red meat
Fasting occurs at the beginning of Lent with Ash Wednesday and at the end with Good Friday. Eggs, fish and dairy products can be consumed normally.
Avoid saying negative words
Even outside of Lent it is important to avoid swear words and negative words, as they have a low vibration and attract bad things to the speaker. Don’t say the word dishonor particularly. It means the lack of divine blessing. And it is the opposite of grace, which means gift, gift, benefit.
Stop habits of cleanliness and vanity during Holy Week
The ancients did not sweep the house, do not comb their hair or bathe during Holy Week. All out of respect for the Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus, it was thought that a mother who had lost her child would not do this and that is why the custom existed.
Don’t listen to or sing songs
Out of respect for the reflection on the passion of Christ, no songs are listened to or sung until the end of Lent.
Abstinence from sex
During Lent, people should fast from things they like to do, foods they like to eat, and/or even habits. Therefore, some people choose not to have relationships during this period.
