Visiting this small town of just over 10 thousand inhabitants is not one of the first options that come to mind for those passing through Santa Catarina.
It wasn’t until you met the Poço Certo Cavein Alfredo Wagner.
110 kilometers from Florianópolis, this municipality of Santa Catarina is known for a 42-meter high waterfall that falls behind a crack in the rock.

Intimate cave weddings
The place also houses a small altar, where a natural room functions as a sort of church with wooden benches and an exclusive view of the waterfall, which is accessed via a short 250-meter path.
The attraction dates back to the time when the Althoff family used the site to store corn and tobacco, which were planted in the same land. However, at the time, access difficulties forced German immigrants to choose a flat area for planting.
But the change was not enough for that Catholic family that arrived in the region at the end of the 19th century.
With the nearest church nearly 12 miles away, in 1952, the Althoffs decided to adapt the unoccupied space to create a prayer temple, still used today by the family and couples who, not long ago, discovered the location for celebrate intimate weddings.
The bad news is that, although the project is well structured with signs and handrails in the wetter sections, the waterfall is located in a dense wooded area without a swimming hole.
All we are left with is the silence of that hidden temple, amidst the natural soundtrack of the waterfall that falls behind the small altar.

How to get
La Gruta do Poço Certo is located 15 kilometers from the center of the municipality of Alfredo Wagner. Access is via the BR-282 (about 10 kilometers of asphalt) and another five kilometers of dirt road passable by any type of vehicle.
