The Queen of Pop’s presentation includes a moment dedicated to paying homage to the victims of AIDS
Madonna has prepared special tributes for Cazuza, Betinho and Renato Russo at the megashow in Brazil next Saturday (4/5). The Brazilians were seen on the big screens at the event during the light tests, which went viral on X (formerly Twitter).
Since the beginning of her career, Madonna has been a strong ally of the LGBTQIA+ public and has shown support for the causes of research for a cure for AIDS, which has killed dozens of her friends. The diva strengthens her connection to her current tour “The Celebration” with small special tributes.
On this tour, the singer celebrates the memory of her colleagues in “Love to Tell”, while she is suspended from a structure to sing above the audience and the screens ask for images of some HIV victims. It will be at this time that Cazuza, Renato Russo and Betinho will be honored on the show.
Fight of the Brazilians
The three Brazilians died in the 1990s and were important in the fight against discrimination against HIV-positive people in the country. The early farewell to singers Cazuza and Renato Russo (formerly Legião Urbana) caused a stir at the time.
The sociologist Betinho, who contracted HIV following a blood transfusion and died in 1997, was a milestone in addition to health causes. He fought against the military dictatorship and mobilized society against poverty and inequalities by founding the NGO Ação Cidadania.
It will be awesome! Photos of Cazuza, Betinho and Renato Russo are projected on screens during Celebration Tour rehearsals in Rio. The performance will take place during the Live To Tell show, where Madonna pays tribute to the victims of AIDS. pic.twitter.com/UJwCW3FR0J
