Dr. Tang is not alone in advocating this theory. Researchers At UC Berkeley, they recruited more than 100 people to test whether self-compassionate touch, which involves placing your hands on your chest, could improve mental health.
The researchers also explored whether repeating affirmations like “I can be my friend right now” also banishes fear and doubt. Study author Eli Susma described the exercise as “a practice of being a thoughtful friend to yourself by reflecting on moments that evoke being hard on yourself.”
